Pasadena City Hall

History:

In 1923, the people of Pasadena approved a bond measure issuing $3.5 million towards the development of a civic center. City Hall was to be the central element of this center. The San Francisco architecture firm of Bennet, Parsons, and Frost designed the City Beautiful and California Mediterranean influenced City Hall. It was completed on December 27, 1927 at a cost of $1.3 million. It measures 361 feet by 242 feet, and rises 6 stores. There are over 235 rooms and passageways that cover over 170,000 square feet. The defining dome, located above the west entrance, is 26 feet tall and 54 feet in diameter. On July 28, 1980, Pasadena City Hall was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Friends Of The Levitt Pavilion- Pasadena

In 2002, The Mortimer Levitt Foundation endowed a $250,000 grant to the City of Pasadena to restore and transform Memorial Park’s 1930’s Gold Shell into a professional venue for quality entertainment. New sound systems, lighting, and refurbishment were completed by July 2003. The Friends of the Levitt Pavilion-Pasadena was incorporated as the nonprofit to ensure the success of the summer concert series at the restored band shell. The Friends of the Levitt Paviliion-Pasadena are community/business leaders and residents whose goal is to sustain the Pavilion through corporate and individual giving.

Background of The Levitt Pavilions

The Mortimer Levitt Foundation, created in 1966 by New York philanthropists Mortimer and Mimi Levitt, donates funds to support performing arts venues that build communities, support diversity and enhance access to the arts throughout the surrounding venues. The Levitt Foundation has a strong commitment to contribute to the well being of families through the arts in a learning and entertainment environment outdoors. The Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arta in Pasadena is modeled after the original Levitt Pavilion in Westport, CT, a long-time contributor to the urban community experience. Locations where Levitt Pavilions’ will be opened within the next two years include Memphis, TN , MacArthur Park in Los Angeles. And negotiations are underway to open Levitt Pavilions in Arlington, Texas and Long Beach California.

 

 


Sierra Madre 4th of July Parade 2007

The City of Sierra Madre, CA holds an annual 4th of July parade.  Although Sierra Madre is a small town, it's resident's make their participation known.  The streets are filled through an approximate 2 mile stretch on Sierra Madre Blvd.   You see everything from antique vehicles, wacky people, cheerleader's, rose princesses, cigar clubs, you name... it's there.   If you have not seen this parade, definitely try to make it next year.
